Who is the Right Candidate for Veneers?
There are several reasons to consider porcelain veneers. Not only do they make your smile look and feel great, but they can also correct or address several dental conditions quickly and effectively. If you have any of these common conditions, you would be a great candidate for porcelain veneers.
- Worn or Chipped Teeth – As people age it is normal for the teeth to begin to break down, wearing the teeth flat or causing chips and breaks. Sometimes this wear and tear, if left unaddressed, can lead to bite issues that may require more expensive restorations to resolve. Worn enamel dulls the tooth color over time and can predispose the teeth to decay or break down.
- Misshaped or Uneven Teeth with Spacing – Sometimes people don’t like the shape, length, or spacing of their teeth, even after completing years of braces. Other times, they may have gaps or crowding that become more noticeable with age.
- Discolored teeth – When tooth color is not corrected through simple whitening or people desire a different shade, veneers can be a great option.
- Crooked teeth – As you age, your teeth may move or shift. Veneers are unique solutions, sometimes referred to as instant orthodontics, that can be used to restore your teeth to a straighter smile without the need for braces or Invisalign®.
- Smile Makeover – Worn, misshaped, and discolored teeth show signs of aging. A smile makeover with veneers can help rejuvenate your smile for a cleaner, brighter, more youthful appearance that you will be proud to share with the world.
What is a Porcelain Veneer?
A veneer is a super thin shell of porcelain (only as thick as a contact lens) that is placed over the existing tooth. Veneers are a conservative way to change teeth. A veneer differs from a crown, which is often used when a tooth is severely decayed or broken and the dentist must extensively treat the tooth before receiving a crown. With veneers, the dentist removes only a small amount of the natural tooth or slightly reshapes the tooth to prepare it to receive the veneer.
A porcelain veneer is extremely strong and very stain resistant. South Metro Dentistry uses the most advanced dental materials and bonding techniques, resulting in an extremely strong restoration, which leaves your teeth looking and feeling like a cleaner and brighter version of your natural teeth. You and your dentist may choose to correct a single damaged tooth, multiple teeth in the smile zone, or a complete redesign of your entire smile.
Preparing for Porcelain Veneers – Try on Your New Smile!
The exam and preparation are a key step in any smile transformation. Dr. Morse and Dr. Rivera are experts in getting to know and understand the unique needs of each patient. The doctors meet with you to learn about your dental needs and gain a thorough understanding of the outcome you desire. From there, your teeth are examined, molds of teeth are created, and the doctors go to work creating your perfect smile. They create a prototype known as a wax-up that allows them to artistically shape the teeth and analyze your bite for optimum functionality before approving your new smile and scheduling treatment.
This treatment takes two appointments. In the first appointment, the doctor shapes and prepares the teeth to receive the veneers. A temporary plastic model is applied to your teeth so that you can test-drive your new teeth for aesthetics, fit, and functionality. At the second appointment, we meticulously clean your teeth, so they are ready to receive the new porcelain veneers before permanently bonding your new veneers to your teeth.
All our porcelain veneers are made locally at a highly sophisticated lab that we have carefully selected for their artistry and expertise in creating porcelain veneers. Each veneer is custom-made with many layers so that the veneer perfectly matches your individual mouth. While many dentists ship to labs outside the state, Dr. Morse and Dr. Rivera prefer a local lab where they can collaborate with their lab technician and oversee the process, as needed.
